The 5 Best Ways to Ace your Pre-Employment Medical

1. Be on time

Simple and easy. Make sure you know where and when your appointment is. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time as there will be paperwork to complete. Being early is much easier to explain then being late.

2. Dress appropriately

A pre-employment medical or functional capacity screening is trying to determine whether you are suitable for employment. You will be required to move your body and exert some effort. Comfortable work or fitness clothes is desired and closed in shoes. Jeans and thongs make it hard to complete the tasks required.

3. Bring ID

We need to make sure it is you. Any photo ID will do, Driver’s License, Passport or Proof of Age card is appropriate. We’ll take a copy and hand it back, simple as that!

4. Provide all relevant history

If the examiner knows your relevant history then they will be able to make comment on any strength or range inconsistencies that may present. Withholding information can make it difficult for the examiner to know your limitations. Previous injury or illness does not impact your ability to successfully complete your assessment.

5. Drink water

You will be exerting some energy so prepare like you are attending the gym. If you haven’t done that in a while no worries here is a handy hint. Drink plenty of water prior to the assessment, about 400ml – 600ml 1-2 hours prior to your appointment will ensure you are well hydrated and performing at your best.
